How Much Does a Private Pilot License Cost in Las Vegas?

What is the Cost in 2026?

If you’ve spent any time looking at the vibrant skyline from the ground, you know there is no better view than the one from a cockpit. For many residents in North Las Vegas and the surrounding valley, earning a Private Pilot License (PPL) is a lifelong dream. But before you take to the skies, it’s important to have a clear, honest picture of the investment required.

At Vegas Aviation, located at the North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT), we pride ourselves on being transparent about costs. Here is the reality of what it looks like to get licensed in 2026.

Breaking Down the Numbers

The FAA requires a absolute minimum of 40 flight hours to earn your PPL. However, because we prioritize safety and true proficiency, most students, both locally and nationally, find they are ready for their checkride closer to 60 or 70 hours.

Based on our current 2026 rates, a typical, realistic investment for a Private Pilot License at Vegas Aviation is around $17,000.

What’s Included in the $17,000?

We’ve structured our pricing to ensure you have everything you need to succeed, with no hidden “surprises” halfway through your training:

  • Dual Flight Instruction (50 Hours): $ 11,750
Personalized, one-on-one training in our Cessna 172 fleet with an FAA-certified instructor.
  • Solo Practice (10 Hours): $ 1,750
This is where you build the confidence and “command” presence needed to be a pilot.
  • Simulator Training (2 Hours): $ 270
We use an Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) to help you master procedures and emergency scenarios in a controlled, cost-effective environment.
  • Ground Instruction (20 Hours): $ 1,200
One-on-one time with your instructor to master navigation, weather, and regulations.
  • Onboarding & Materials: $ 765
Includes your Pilot Onboarding Kit and the comprehensive Cessna Online Private Pilot Course.
  • Checkride Fees: $1,550
This covers two hours of aircraft rental for the exam ($350) and the Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) fee ($1,200).

Note
While we follow a flexible curriculum, everyone learns differently, so your investment may be more or less than the average shown. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Why Train at North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT)?

Airplane flying over city

Where you train matters just as much as what you pay. By choosing Vegas Aviation at the North Las Vegas Airport, you benefit from:

  • Efficiency
Compared to major commercial hubs, KVGT has shorter taxi times. This means more of your hour is spent in the air learning, rather than sitting on the hot desert tarmac.
  • Modern Fleet
Our Cessna 172s are equipped with modern avionics (like Garmin G5 displays), ensuring you are learning on relevant technology.
  • In-House Maintenance
We maintain our own aircraft right here on-site, which means higher safety standards and better plane availability for your lessons.

How to Keep Your Costs Down

While flight training is a significant investment, there are ways to ensure you stay on the lower end of the cost spectrum:

  • Fly Frequently
We recommend flying 2–3 times per week. Consistency is the #1 way to avoid “re-learning” old lessons and save money in the long run.
  • Study Ahead
For every hour in the air, spend two hours on the ground. Arriving prepared for your lesson means your instructor spends less time explaining theory and more time teaching you to fly.
  • Use the Sim
Our AATD simulator is a powerful tool. Using it to nail down your checklists and radio work can save you hundreds in fuel and engine time.

See What Our Students Say

Alexander Palmberg

Student - Private Pilot

"I've used a variety of flight schools in the Las Vegas Area, and Vegas Aviation has definitely been the best one. My main concerns at the beginning of my flight training were the quality and availability of the planes and instructors, but none of that has been a problem for me during my time here. Another major concern of mine was pricing. I will say that rental prices are slightly higher than other flight schools in the area, but through getting my Private Pilot License I learned that you get what you pay for. If I could start my training all over again I would picked Vegas Aviation sooner to save more time and money in the long run."

Matt

Student - Private Pilot

"Vegas Aviation is top notch. I switched over to VA from another school in the valley to finish my PPL and immediately felt right at home.

The rates are more than fair, all of the instructors are great, the aircraft are meticulously maintained and feature some really nice upgrades (G5 panels on the 172N is a great solution in between steam and G1000), and Louis is the kindest, warmest, most genuine business owner you will ever meet. Thank you, VA for everything you do!

If anyone is reading this and is on the fence about flight schools, do yourself a favor and give VA a try! You will immediately feel like part of the family the moment you walk in the door."

Flore Rulleau

Student - Certified Flight Instructor

"I started flight school at Vegas Aviation in June 2022. I got my PPL, Instrument, Commercial and multi engine ratings.
And I just obtained my CFI certificate.
I loved every part of it!
Super nice and supportive staff, great aircrafts!"
