Henderson has flight training options close to home, so the real question is which school fits your goals. Here is what training with Vegas Aviation at North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT) looks like for Henderson students, and how to decide.

Choosing a Flight School in Henderson, NV: What to Compare
Henderson sits in the southeast corner of the Las Vegas Valley and has its own general aviation airport, Henderson Executive (KHND), so you are not short on schools to call. That is a good position to be in. It also means the decision should come down to specifics: the aircraft you will train in, who maintains them, how flexible the syllabus is, and how the school treats you when weather, scheduling, or budget get in the way.
Vegas Aviation is a Part 61 flight school based at North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT), a towered Class D airport on the north side of the valley. For a Henderson student that means a drive up the I-11 / I-515 corridor for each lesson. What you would find at the other end is a fleet of Cessna 172s maintained by our own in-house shop, a Beechcraft Duchess for multi-engine work, an advanced aviation training device for instrument practice, and instructors who adapt the lesson sequence to your progress and the days you are free.
This page is meant to help you compare honestly. Use the questions below when you visit any school, including ours, and book a discovery flight before you commit to a program.
-
Ask about maintenance
Who maintains the training aircraft and where? Vegas Aviation's mechanics work on site at KVGT rather than off field, so squawks stay visible to the people who fly the planes.
-
Ask about scheduling
Ask any school how far ahead you need to book and how often you can realistically fly. We train under Part 61, so the lesson order is not tied to an FAA-approved course sequence and can follow your availability.
-
Ask about airspace
KVGT is a towered Class D field beneath the Las Vegas Class B airspace. You will work with a control tower from your first lesson, which builds radio confidence early.
-
Ask about the path after Private
If your goal is a career, check that Instrument, Commercial, Multi-Engine, and CFI training are available at the same school so you are not switching mid-way.
Why Henderson Students Drive to KVGT
What Makes the Trip from Henderson Worth It
A longer drive only makes sense if the training on the other end is better for you. These are the things worth weighing before you decide.
In-house maintenance
Our aircraft are inspected and repaired by our own maintenance team at the same hangar you train from, so you can ask about an airplane and get a direct answer.
One fleet, every rating
Cessna 172s for Private, Instrument, and Commercial work, a Beechcraft Duchess for the Multi-Engine add-on, and a simulator for instrument procedures. You can go from first lesson to CFI without changing schools.
Instructors who plan around you
Training under Part 61 means the syllabus is not locked to an FAA-approved course sequence, so your instructor can order lessons around your progress and the days you can drive up. The FAA requirements for the certificate stay the same either way.
A school that feels like a family
Students stop by even when they aren't flying, because Vegas Aviation has become their aviation home. Whichever is your goal, a friendly face is waiting to welcome you.
Transparent pricing
Aircraft rental, instruction, and simulator rates are published on our pricing page so you can budget the full program, not just the first lesson.
Simulator sessions when weather or time is short
Instrument students can log procedures in our advanced aviation training device, which is a useful option when you cannot fit a full flight into a Henderson commute.

Where Henderson Students Usually Start
Whichever of these you are aiming for, the first step is the same: a discovery flight with a certified instructor.
Private Pilot License
The foundation for every other certificate. Learn the aircraft, the airspace around the Las Vegas Valley, and how to fly safely with passengers.
Instrument Rating
Already a pilot in Henderson? Add the instrument rating using our Cessna 172s and simulator, and become comfortable flying in and around busy Class B airspace.
Multi-Engine Add-On
Train in the Beechcraft Duchess for the multi-engine rating, which airline career paths generally call for.

Inspiring Stories from Our Students
I recently had the pleasure of completing a discovery flight with Vegas Aviation, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived, the warmth and friendliness of the owners and staff put me at ease. Their knowledge and passion for flying truly shine through. My instructor, Geo, took me up for the flight, and he was fantastic! His expertise and encouragement helped me feel comfortable right from the start. The scenery was breathtaking, and the thrill of being in the cockpit was exhilarating. Every moment was filled with excitement, and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to flying. I left the experience feeling inspired and eager to begin my training to get my pilot's license. If you're considering a discovery flight or looking to start your aviation journey, I highly recommend Vegas Aviation. You won't be disappointed.
I had the opportunity to do a discovery flight with Vegas Aviation, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the entire staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. They explained everything clearly, gave me a tour of the place, and made sure I felt comfortable and excited throughout the process. The flight itself was amazing, getting to sit in the cockpit, feel the controls, and feel the freedom of flying above Las Vegas was a dream coming true. I deeply thank Vegas Aviation staff, Tom, Lukas and Roxana.
My son took his first discovery flight today. His instructor was Dorian, who was absolutely amazing. We were originally scheduled for a discovery flight two weeks ago and were second in line for takeoff when an incoming plane declared an emergency, And landed on its belly. That shut down the airport for 12 hours, but wow, what a first experience that we got to see firsthand as we were second in line for takeoff when it happened. Dorian went through all of the emergency procedures and exactly what was happening with the tower With the airplane. That experience alone probably weighed more than his first flight today. Today's flight was about 45 minutes and it was absolutely beautiful. My son had the controls for half the time, including for takeoff and landing. Dorian was cool as a cucumber and made my son feel very safe and gave absolutely incredible instruction! If you're looking for a flight school, I would not look anywhere else!
